For too long, product management has suffered from what I call “selective hearing syndrome.” We conduct surveys, run focus groups, and analyze metrics, but are we truly listening? During my time stocking shelves and picking orders, I discovered that true listening happens in the moments between formal feedback sessions:

Fear of killing your product that you have worked so hard and long on has multiple facets. Many team members feel like they will be killed right along with the project they kill so they keep it alive as long as possible. By making it something to be proud of and awarded it removes a crucial boundary necessary for team success and growth

4. Empower Cross-Functional Collaboration
Creativity doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Some of the most innovative ideas come from the intersection of different perspectives. I’ve found that encouraging cross-functional collaboration—between product, engineering, marketing, and customer insights—often leads to unexpected breakthroughs. When teams with diverse expertise collaborate, they approach problems from different angles, leading to more creative and holistic solutions.

5. Create Space for Reflection and Inspiration
Innovation isn’t something that can be forced. Sometimes, the best ideas come when you step away from the task at hand.
